Informal Interactive Hearing with NGOs, civil society organizations, major groups and the private sector

New York, 26 - 27 May 2015 (stakeholder speaker statement available)

Objective

The interactive hearings provide an opportunity for representatives of non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, major groups, and the private sector to exchange views and make proposals on the post-2015 development agenda at a critical stage of the intergovernmental negotiations. The zero draft of the summit outcome document was issued by the end of May 2015.

The 26-27 May hearings was organized by the Office of the President of the General Assembly, supported by UN DESA, UN-NGLS, the Executive Office of the Secretary-General’s Post-2015 Team, and the UN Global Compact, and are aimed at fostering active multi-stakeholder participation in the formulation of the agenda, while ensuring regional and gender balance as well as diversity of expertise, sectors, and age among speakers.

The two-day event took place in the UN General Assembly Hall, and comprised of an opening segment on the morning of day one, four roundtable discussions following the roadmap of the post-2015 intergovernmental negotiations, and a closing segment at the end of day two.

The opening segment was presided over by Acting President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Denis G. Antoine, Permanent Representative of Grenada, and include the participation of a designated representative of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; H.E. Ambassador Macharia Kamau, Permanent Representative of Kenya to the UN and co-facilitator of the negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda; and several stakeholder speakers.
