Transdiaspora Network Attended UNAIDS Consulting Meeting
On June 13, 2014, UNAIDS New York Office hosted a meeting for about 35 representatives from various groups and organizations working on or interested in the Post-2015 development framework and how HIV/AIDS can be a part of it. Throughout the day the recurring theme in the discussions was how to better support key populations and ensure that the most marginalized are not left behind – both in the process and in the final Post-2015 framework.
The meeting was framed around three themes that were each introduced by an expert in the field: International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) presented the progress on vaccine development, UNFPA led a discussion on addressing the backlash on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Rockefeller Foundation introduced the concepts of Universal Health Coverage as a part of the Post-2015 agenda. The group was able to share ideas on how to work more strategically on these issues and they took the opportunity to also make recommendations to UNAIDS New York Office on its Post-2015 work, increased inclusion of key populations and people living with HIV and outreach efforts.
This meeting was convened to follow up previous Civil Society meetings in New York and to create a forum for consultation with new partners. The meeting was held just ahead of the 12th session of the Open Working Group (OWG). Inputs from participants at this meeting were valuable in helping UNAIDS discuss and evolve its vision for the Post-2015 agenda, and in helping align messages and ambition beyond 2015.
