Transdiaspora Network Goes Purple Against Domestic Violence

As part of the 2018 Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Transdiaspora Network (TDN) conducted a workshop on October 19th, Friday, at the first ever youth-focused conference organized by the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Genderā€Based Violence (John Jay College). The conference “Balancing You, Me and Us: Exploring Ourselves, our Relationships and our Communities” was geared towards high-school aged youth, and focused on topics related to building and maintaining healthy relationships between oneself and intimate partners. Through TDN groundbreaking curriculum, participants were given a different language to communicate with, drawn from their cultural reservoirs, as well as a venue where they can freely conceptualize and vocalize their feelings. Our constituencies are adolescents and young adults exercising their sexual rights while negotiating how their cultural heritage and family traditions interplay with the realities of peer pressure, reproductive health and sexually-transmitted diseases in environments not always conducive to communication and open dialogue.
