Transdiaspora Network New Partnership With NYC Summer Youth Employment Program

New York, NY (July 5, 2022) – Today, our organization received a letter from Mr. Keith Howard, NYC Department of Youth & Community Development Commissioner, who welcome our team as a new partner in the NYC Summer Youth Employment Program.

Here we share the letter with you:

Dear SYEP Partner,
Today is the first day of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). As the new commissioner of the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), I am proud to partner with thousands of companies and organizations like yours to make this year’s program the City’s largest SYEP yet. On behalf of Mayor Eric Adams and our entire City, thank you for making a difference in the lives of young New Yorkers this summer.
I cannot overstate the importance of your contributions to the futures of young people. Growing up in the Bronx, I too was an SYEP participant. As a 15-year-old working at a daycare, I learned about leadership and being responsible for someone other than myself. It also taught me how to be financially responsible, support my family, and set aside money for my future. It set the stage for a career path that has brought me to DYCD.
You will benefit a great deal this summer from the energy and creativity of the young people working with you, but you also will directly contribute to the development of our future workforce—a workforce that reflects New York City’s diversity—by serving as a mentor, an inspiration, and a guide to your SYEP participants.
We hope you find this experience rewarding and enjoyable. Our community-based organizations and DYCD staff are here to support you, and I encourage you to share your SYEP story with us and online using #mySYEPstory.
